The publicity given to the Chan
cellor's notice, regarding the work
required of special students, had
the required effect, and to-day,
from the entire enrollment, there
are only nine students whoso record
is not in the possession of the reg
istrar. Of this number a few have
withdrawn from tho college, and
the others can be readily accounted
for.
Jt must have been a gigantic task
to look after so many, yet this
duty fell to the lot of Miss Tut tie,
who unaided and alone, after work
ing every night until Jt) o'clock,
now possesses a complete record of
every attendant at the university
except the number mentioned.
Considering tho enrollment, this is
considered a fine showing for such
an early date.
Foot Ball and Tally-ho.
In spito of tho threatening
weather Saturday a gay tally-ho
party under the auspices of the
Delta TauDDelta fraternity turned
out to tlio foot bail game. Mack
intoshes and umbrellas were called
into service at frequent intervals
but this served only to add to tho
enjoyment. Tho coach was deco
rated with tho scarlet and cream of
tho university and the purple, gold
and whito
of tho Dolta Liu Delta's.
Tho fraternity
bunnor attracted
especial attention. Tin horns
served to roint'orco tho tired voices
of tlio party.

A Social for '97.
Tho class meeting held by the
sophomores yesterday afternoon
was not very well attended, nor
was there an intense display of en
thusiasm. The report of the com
mittee was adopted, which was to
the effect that a literary and social
reception should be hold within
four or five weeks from date in
one of the halls of the literary so
cieties. The various committees
wero appointed and the necessary
preparations begun.

No Team For Baker.
The faculty and trustees of Maker
University have finally declared the
game abolished at that institution.
As a result it is reported that seven
of the boys who were last year in
the champion team of the west left
for Oltawa to enter the Ottawa
University. The departing boys
were driven to the depot, followed
by a large concourse of students,
girls ns well as boys. The carri
ages as wella ssovoral business
houses, were draped in black, and a
black Hag floated from a college
building. This now takes all the
old foot ball eleven from the Uni
versity. Several wero ollicers in
military department; several are
seniors in the University. A num
ber of students have signified their
intention of not returning next
year, and many of the best friends
of the school declare this to bo a
blunder of the worst sort.
Shy $90,000.
Tho Chancellor has completed
the first draft of the financial
budget for the next biennium. lie
has simply entered, as is customary
in making the first draft, into the
demands reported by tho depart
ments as minimum demands and as
absolutely imperative demands.
These foot up $!)0,(U() more than
the present income of the university
for tho biennium. Tho task now is
to reconcile tho imperative and
minimum demands with tho possi
ble resources. Of course every
professor thinks his requirements
nro reasonable and ought to be mot,
and that all tho other follows are
very extravagant.
This fablo teaches the difficulty
which must bo encountered by the
executive oflice.
