The Aciji. God bless sill the legislatures, Nebraska's too, and open their eyes. The attendance at Yale Univer- sityisnowconJidernbly over ioUO; ' class work was taken up September ;-27th. The seniors of the University of Wisconsin have adopted the cap and gown. A class cane was also adopted. The athletic outlook tit Harvard is especially good this year. The Harvard football eleven is expect ing to win great honors during the year. Wisconsin University has a poet in the person of C. Floyd AlcClure. He is the author of Mauley's prize '?' winner, "Her Carriage," published in bombrcru, Vol. 111. Attendance at Sunday afternoon vesper service, at Amherst college is no longer compulsory. The entering freshman class at Harvard this year contains nearly COO members. The university of Wisconsin is expecting tin appropriation when the legislature meets, for a new library just like us. About JJOi) students are enorlled this year at the Peru Normal school. Brown university is groaning under the weight of an increased attendance. Tifdniifl Slnnford university 'ft started out with an enrollment of .t 900 which has probably greatly increased. Director Clark Introduces u New Wrinkle InClyin" Work. Some of the new ideas introduced by Dr. Clark, the new physical di rector, are exciting very tavorable comment. The introduction of the camera which will do away with the tedious system of measuring every portion' of the anatomy, is welcomed by every student who underwent this process last year. It evidently is not clear to all juwt what use of the camera is be ing made in connection with the physical examinations now in pro vess. The idea is not new or orig inal, though the out lit, while olll cionl was gotten up with a view to economy. A light frame iMx-ll) inches (inside measure) is strung across with small twine forming Muares exactly one inch in diame ter. The subject to be photo graphed stands, with at least the upper part of the b.idy nude, at it convenient? distance from the cam era, while as close to him as pos sible and between him and tho camera is suspended the screen of cords. Thus in the completed pho tograph the ligure appears plotted in inch squares. Tho lines show just how much lower one shoulder is than the other; just how much the spine deviates from a straight line; just how much the antero posterior curve is exaggerated, and many other interesting points. There is no going back on a camera and many will not believe that their position is faulty until shown in ibis way. Iy aiid by after it winter's work in the gymnasium in many cases special work photographs will again be taken and the ii vo ment, if Jtny is made, will be per fectly evident on comparison with the first print. The photographing does not di minish the number of measure ments taken. Till-: LOCAL DUISATKS. A Message- from the Secretary Urging: All to Tnlco Part. All students who can debate, or who think they can, all siitdcnts, propsand collegiate, law, academic, industrial, musical, are requested to enter the local debates. Thi message is for youths and maidens, for the twenty-hour tudent who spends his time wearily in study o'er the midnight oil, and for the ten-hour student who spends his time on the campus benches in summer and in the back of the chapel in winter. .Uonieinher that we are to have a joint debate with Kansas during the latter part of this school year and that we must have the very best material our university ail'onls if we would come out from such a conllict with Hying banners. Ami furthermore, if you do not gain a high place in the preliminaries, who can estimate the good gained from tt thorough study of a qties tion! The eastern colleges have all, one after another, been throw ing overboard the old oratorical contest and supplying tho vacancy with rough and tumble debate. Will Nebraska advance long side of Vale, Harvard and University of Pennsylvania Now is tho time lo decide. There are only a few days left in which to register for these prelim inary debates. Come, then, give us your co-operation and support and our first annual debate with Kansas will be a great success. Kogister with C K. Welden, president of tho local association, or with yours truly, Nkd C. Abhott, Mecrctury. Known Abroad.
