ercises" of the World's Fair at Chicago.
Miss Gellatly of Doane visited with her
cousin, Miss May Whiting, last week.
Misses Griggs, '96, Hershey, '96, Cox and
Burks, '95, spent Sunday at home in Beatrice.
W. H. and J. H. Johnston stopped off at
their home for a short visit on the return trip.
Bert Wheeler '90, visited his old school
mates last Monday, and took in the foot-ball
game.
Miss Minnie DePue, '92, came up from
David City on the 21st to spend Sunday at
home.
O. H. Brainerd, principal of the Beatrice
High school, was a recent visitor at the Uni
versity. Mr. Pierson, the evangelist, addressed the
students of the University last Sunday af
ternoon. James Barkley will winter at Evansville,
Ind., where he is working at electrical en
gineering. Locke Richardson, a reader of consider
able reputation, visited the university one
day last week.
T. F. A. Williams, '92, is studying law in
Chicago, and is well pleased with the material
at hand in that city.
Jas. B. McDonald, '92, was acting gover
nor during Gov. Boyd's and Lieut. Gov.
Majors' recent absence from the state.
Mr. Hal W. Reed, secretary of the foot
ball association, visited the university on the
22d and stopped over to see the game.
Miss Mary Jones, the librarian, and her
brother Charles, were guests of Miss Kittie
Weston at her home in Beatrice last week.
Chas. Jones, '96, and Julius Westerman,
'96, have ,,been initiated by the Phi Delta
Shetas, and Hebard, '96, by the Sigma Chis.
Misses Fannie Hershley and Nellie Griggs
of '96, and Miss Mariel Gere of '95, have
been initiated by the Kappa Kappa Gamma.
Charles Skiles of Alvo made one of his
periodical visits to his alma mater last week.

Jas. B. McDonald, Will Westerman, Otis
Weeks, C. L. Tallmadge and Fred Gund
accompanied the foot-ball team to Denver
and witnessed the defeat.
Miss Stella Kirker, Miss Louise Pound,
and Miss Maude Hammond will visit with
Miss Minnie DePue in David City next
week. Miss DePue is teaching in the high
school of that city.
Professor A. S. Hitchcock of the Kansas
Agricultural college, a former student of
Professor Bessey, called at the University
two weeks ago, and spent two days looking
over the botanical department.
Professor G. C. Menzendorf was called to
Bloomington, 111., last Tuesday, by receiving
a notice of his mother's death. Saturday
his father unexpectedly died, and Mrs. Men
zendOif left in the evening for Bloomington.
Professor Amos G. Warner, superintend
ent of charities in the District of Columbia,
renewed old acquaintances at the university

strides his alma mater is pushing forward.
He has been lecturing before the students
of the university of Wisconsin. On March
1st he accepts a chair at the Leland Stanford
university.
