“I think teams have rallied
behind injuries before," Belcher
said. “I think teams that lose
their star player come together
and can be dangerous. You catft
really count them out"
Ffriend said it was up to
unheralded teammates to step
up their play in his absence, an
absence that was exposed by
ISU senior guard JamaalTinsety
in the late going.
With no Ffriend inside to
block shots, Tlnsely consistently
took the ball to the hoop en
route to a career high 29 points.
"We know that everyone has
to play that much harder with
Kimani being out,” Augustine
said. "He gives us a lot of room
for error."
Nebraska Coach Barry
Collier said he asked his team to
pick up their play at least five
percent to make up for die big
man.
Ffriend said his team could
still win even if he couldn’t {day
this week.
“It’s going to be hard, but if
each one of them have a positive
attitude and work hard, they
have a chance,” Ffriend said. “I
don’t know how far they can go,
but that depends on how much

FROM STUFF REPORTS
Nebraska finished 3-2 in the
Bed Desert Classic over the week
end, with both losses coming
against ranked teams.
The Huskers lost to No. 6
Stanford 6-4 and No. 12
Washington 3-0 at the Red Desert
Classic. NU picked up victories
against BYU4-1, Southern Utah 5
2 and Utah State 4-0. All three
teams were unranked.
Nebraska has gone 2-9 this
seascxi when fixing ranked oppo
nents and are 8-0 against
unranked teams. The Huskers
have played close against the
ranked teams, with six of the loss
es being decided by two or less
runs and three of the games going
to extra innings, but have had
trouble coming away with the
win.
In die early game on Friday,
NU beat BYU earning Coach
Rhonda Revdle her 300™ career
victory. Freshman Nicole Ttimboli
went 2-for-3, including a two-run

Later Friday, Nebraska defeat

Nebraska dropped its first
game of the tournament on
Saturday to Stanford. Ace pitcher
Leigh Ann Walker took the loss for
NU.
The Huskers blanked Utah
State later Saturday to move to 3-1
in the tournament. Freshman
pitcher Katie Decker held the
Aggies hitiess until the top of the
seventh inning.
In the last game of the tourna
ment Nebraska was blanked 3-0
by Washington (15-7). The game
was scoreless into the sixth when
the Huskies’ Jamie Clark hit a
three-run homer off freshman
Peaches James.

ISU Coach Larry Eustachy
said Tinsley was something
special.
"Some guys melt when it
gets tough,” he said. “He just
gets tougher.”
In a game marred by 50
personal fouls, NU Coach
Barry Collier said the lack of
aggressiveness on his team's
part and a closely-called game
eventually led to the loss.
"The foul trouble and the
free throws really gave them a
chance to set their defense
each time,” Collier said. “They
made their free throws and
gained an advantage.”
Iowa State made 35 of 43
free throws, compared to 10 of
15 for Nebraska.
NU, which dropped to 14
15 and 7-9 in the Big 12, will
play Kansas State on Thursday
at 6 p.m. in the first round of
the Big 12 tournament.
The Huskers must reach
the championship game of
the tournament to be eligible
for the NIT because its win
over Division II Alaska
Fairbanks in the Husker Team
Classic doesn’t count towards
the .500 record needed to
qualify for postseason play.
