29 file to replace Scott Moore BY GEORGE GREEN The quest for a new secretary of state has begun. When Monday’s deadline to apply for the job expired, 29 peo ple had tossed their names into the basket of potential candi dates. Now, the governor’s office will begin sifting through applicants to chose a candidate, said Chris Peterson, a spokesman for the governor. Secretary of State Scott Moore will step down from his post on Dec. 15 to work for the Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha. Each of the 29 applicants will be interviewed over the telephone this week by a three-member panel composed of the governor’s staff, Peterson said. Gov. Mike Johanns will then narrow the list and chose a new secretary of state, Peterson said. “Moore steps down on Dec. 15, and the governor plans to have someone in place by then,” he said.
