ASUN readies out to students with service-awareness survey BY MARGARET BEHM Student government mem bers want you to tell them what you know. The Association of Students of the University of Nebraska is con ducting an Awareness Day on Nov. 8th. Members of ASUN will intro duce themselves to students and ask if they know about a variety of services ASUN provides. Questions such as whether students know they can get a free lawyer through Student Legal Services are on the questionnaire. Speaker of the Senate Jason Mashek said he was in favor of passing the bill, which passed 18 - 5. “I think what this is saying is that we care what the students think,” he said. “I’m not advocat ing that this is the only effort we make, but it’s a good start” Polling will take place in and around the Nebraska Union, Union Plaza, Nebraska East Union and the Hewit Athletic Academic Center. All senators and executive board members will poll students for at least an hour between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Nov. 8. Arts and Sciences Sen. Angela Clements said she hoped the poll would inspire senators to educate the students they represent. "This is to jump-start some of you who don’t know what to do in ASUN to do something,” she said. Some senators, including Engineering and Technology Sen. Emily Bannick, voiced opposition to the proposed bill. “I think thatwe’re just goingto be sitting in the union for an hour and a lot of people might just say, ‘No, I don’t want to take this stu pid survey,”’ she said. General Studies Sen. Michelle Schrage said that even if students passing by choose not to take the survey, it’s at least worth a try. “There is no harm in passing this bill,” she said. “The only thing that could happen to us is that we waste an hour of our day.” In other senate new. ■ A bill passed that requires each senator to get in touch with the college he or she represents.
