Missouri impressed with Huskers BY BRIAN CHRISTOPHERSON The Big 12 Conference vol leyball season is picking up momentum, and Nebraska has already locked up the 2000 con ference crown. O.K., officially the No. 1 Huskers have a long way to go before they can tack up another banner in the NU Coliseum. But the Huskers must won der where their conference competition is after holding previously undefeated Missouri to only 12 total points in Saturday's three-game sweep. ‘ "Nebraska is one of those games where you learn and go on,” Missouri Coach Susan Kreklow said. “Nebraska is one of the strongest Division I teams I’ve ever seen.” If Nebraska is just a game other teams use to learn from, who will provide the competi tion in the conference? Texas is off to its worst start in school history. Baylor was taken to the cleaners in three games by Kansas State on .Saturday. Texas A&M, a team project ed to challenge NU for the top conference spot, was beaten by Missouri in a sweep. The same Tiger team that couldn’t even muster a point in game one of Nebraska’s cakewalk. Nebraska Coach John Cook said Missouri will be a team to keep an eye on. “I don’t know if they will have the same results against Texas A&M when they play down there,” Cook said. “It will be interesting to see where that the DN online “Nebraska is one of those games where you learn and go on. The scores and rankings may speak louder than any words. Texas A&M will likely drop from their previous No. 19 position, while Baylor may also find themselves unranked after the 24th-ranked Bears’ loss to K State. The Cats will probably move up from their 22nd ranking in the polls. And KSU, the team that was picked fourth in the preseason conference polls, will be ranked as the second-best team in the Big 12. Kreklow didn’t seem sure that Nebraska would have any competition this year after Saturday’s match. “You have to serve aggres sively and play a complete game. I haven’t ever seen a team as physical at the net,” Kreklow said. “They are a great blocking team and I think a lot of teams will have trouble matching up with Nebraska.” Donate your life-saving blood plasma & receive $30 TODAY (for approx. 2 hours of your time). Like Sunday’s game, the Huskers claimed a 1 -0 lead at the half, but jumped on the Big Green early in the second half with a goal by Meghan Anderson.
