Beta Theta Pi Fraternity Praised Nationally Years of consistent dedication and hard work paid off for the University of Nebraska Lincoln’s Beta Theta Pi chapter when their gen eral fraternity recog nized them in several areas of excellence. At their national conven tion this year, the UNL chapter was presented with the John Riley Knox Award, the highest honor granted to a chapter in the general fraternity. To qualify for the award, each mem ber must participate in 20 hours of community service and be involved in two extracurricular activities within their campus or community. Finally, their chapter must achieve a 90% activation rate. With an all house GPA of 3.509, the Nebraska Beta’s also received an award for the highest national chapter grade point average. Additionally, chapter advisor Mike Wortman was awarded chapter advisor of the year and housemother Sharon Gallon received the award for house oarent of the vear. It’s all about getting involved." M.J. Kratina, President of UNL’s Beta Theta Pi chapter, stated that the "recent success of the chapter is a trib ute to the changes and culture that took place 5 years ago. The guys really took pride in the awards and it was the team effort that has made us so proud " The men of Beta were also recognized nation ally for their excellence in campus involvement and risk management. Other awards received by the chapter included the Sisson Award for overall chapter excel lence and the second place in the Whitman Choral Cup for singing excellence. .
