Fourth festivities regional crowd pleasers By Steven R. Bender Staff writer Another Independence Day came and went as quickly as the fireworks that were shot into the night sky Tuesday. From sea to shining sea, America celebrated July 4 with apple pie, music and a host of outdoor activities. Such was the case at Holmes Lake in Lincoln. Jim Pfeiffer, 30, of Syracuse came to Holmes Lake with his wife and daughter early Tuesday evening to see the night’s fire works display. It was the family’s first time to Lincoln for the nighttime spectacle. “We’re picnicing, playing through the afternoon,” Pfeiffer ** ../ enjoy it as a holiday itself. You get to shoot fireworks off and stuff like that ” Jim Pfieffer firework spectator said. “Went down to the car show, checked out the cars, trucks and stuff like that. Just enjoying the day go by.” Pfeiffer said his family's par ticipation in Independence Day events varies from year to year. “But I enjoy it as a holiday itself,” he said. “You get to shoot fireworks off and stuff like that." Ruby Bates, 81, of Tecumseh, made it back to the fireworks show again this year. She's been coming to Holmes Lake for the last ten years, and she anxiously awaited the fire works this year. “That’s what we’re waiting for,” Bates said, who arrived at the lake about 5 p.m. Bates said it was one of the hottest days she remembers in attending the fireworks show. The fireworks show began just after 10 p.m. and lasted near ly 20 minutes.
