Three to interview
to be vice chancellor

The search for a vice chancellor
for business and finance is advanc
ing into its final stages.
UNL Chancellor James Moeser
announced that three candidates will
be on campus for interviews in May.
The position has been filled tem
porarily by interim Vice Chancellor
Scott Lewis after Melvin Jones died
of a heart attack in October.
The three candidates are
Lawrence F. Davenport, from Milton
Hershey School in Hershey, Pa.;
Christie A. Jackson, vice presidpnt
for business and finance at
Cleveland State University, and
Lewis.
Davenport is the vice president
of finance and operations and chief
. financial officer for the
Pennsylvania school. He has been
there since 1994.
He earned his bachelor’s and
master’s degrees at Michigan State
University and his doctorate of edu
cation at Farleigh Dickinson
University in New Jersey.
He has worked at the University
of Michigan at Flint, the University
of California at San Francisco and
various community colleges.
He has also served in positions at
the U.S. Department of Education
and the U.S. Department of Energy.
He was the chief financial officer for
the Seattle Public Schools.
Jackson is the vice president for
finance and administration at
Cleveland State University. She
earned her bachelor’s degree at Hope
College in Michigan and her mas
ter’s of business administration at
Western Michigan University.
She has held positions at Hope
College, the University of Southern
California, the University of Illinois
at Urbana-Champaign and
Oklahoma State University.
Lewis earned his bachelor’s
degree at Hendrix College in
Arkansas and his doctorate of
jurisprudence at the University of
Arkansas at Little Rock School of
Law.
Before coming to Nebraska as
the associate vice chancellor of busi
ness and finance, Lewis held several
positions at Arkansas State
University.
The candidates will interview
during the first two weeks of May.
Moeser said he hopes to make an
appointment before he leaves for his
position at the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill in July.

FIFTY SEPARATE QUILT BLOCKS from the AIDS memorial quilt were on display Monday
through Wednesday in the Centennial Room of the Nebraska Union. Rick Worman,
director of the local chapter of the NAMES project of the Heartland/Omaha, said the
quilt was displayed in order to “bring awareness to people that we do get (AIDS) in
the Midwest.”
