Nebraska Basketball Coach
Barry Collier has one remaining
scholarship left to give after signing
two junior college prospects from
Kansas.
The Comhuskers will be getting
two guards to help fill their roster,
which will now consist of five sen
iors, five juniors and two freshman.
Danai Young from Cowley
County (Kan.) Community College
and Kedrick Ford of Neosho County
(Kan.) Community College signed
with NU on Tuesday after taking a
visit to Lincoln this past weekend.
Young is a 6-foot-4 forward who
averaged 12.5 points and 5.3
rebounds with 61 steals on the sea
son. His coach, Mark Nelson, said
he will fit in well with Collier’s
style.
“He is a slasher that is also a
good defender,” said Nelson, who
said Young had drawn attention
from schools like Wyoming, Idaho,
Tulsa and Centenary before choos
ing NU. “He is a good kid and works
hard.”
Young said Nebraska fit him
well, and he came away from
Lincoln impressed with the people
around the campus. As for the court,
lie said he sees himself fitting in
well with the Huskers next season.
“I play both ends of the court
and get my teammates involved,”
said Young, who also was recruited
by Kansas State, Massachusetts,
Centenary, Marquette and
Pepperdine, among others.
Ford, along with Young, was a
third-team All Kansas Jayhawk
Community College Conference
after averaging 10.4 points while
shooting more than 40 percent from
die three-point range.
All this despite not having any
experience on the high school level.
“He did not play high school
basketball,” Neosho Coach Jeff
Guiot said, “so he is still developing
his basketball skills. If he continues
on his current pace, he is on track to
be a real good player in the Big 12
Conference.”
But the 6-foot-2 guard will
make his biggest impact, Husker
Assistant Coach George Rankin
said, with his winning mentality.
“He comes from a program
that’s very successful and won more
than 20 games a year,” Rankin said.
“He’s used to winning.”
Collier said Ford will contribute
immediately because of his attitude
and ability,

NEUMANN from page 16
the NCAA championships.
It was hard on Neumann because
he wanted Snyder to get that national
title. He wanted it for Bryan Snyder.
After Vering won his national tide
he sprinted over and embraced
Neumann in a hug that would have
crushed a bear.
When Paul Gomez collapsed to the
mat with joy after earning All
American honors, he then got up and
ran into Neumann’s arms the way a
three-year-old sprints to his dad when
he arrives home from work.
What didn’t make the headlines is
how Neumann and his wrestlers would
visit schools, hold camps and enjoy
every minute of spreading the word
about the sport they loved.
What didn’t make the headlines is
how Neumann made everyone around
him feel honored that they knew him.
Now the entire wrestling commu
nity is left wondering. They’re hoping
and praying for the best for a truly great
man.
What’s on our mind, Tim? Just you.
