State Patrol officer arrested for sexual assault > - - J* .1 -f i- * * •« \ <» 4 \ | Vi i • % »• A A V By Michelle Starr Staff writer t Lincoln Police arrested a Nebraska State Patrol Trooper on Wednesday for first-degree sexual assault According to a statement issued by Lincoln Police, Sgt. Kenneth Miller, 34, was arrested at about noon at police headquarters. Lincoln Police Capt. David said no details about the case were being J t ^ i released, including the datfc or what happened during the alleged offense. Terri Teuber, spokeswoman for the Nebraska State Patrol, said die 22-year veteran officer has been placed on paid administrative leave until the investiga tion is completed. The agency would not speculate what might happen to Miller^ job if he were convicted, and Teuber said those questions would be answered later. The arrest came after Lincoln * Sj ; V A . y Police investigated the offense at the request of the State Patrol, Lincoln Police said. . - According to a statement from the State Patrol said the Lincoln Police were notified of the possible crime after Miller’s supervisor became aware of it The State Patrol said Miller was not on duty at the time of the offense, nor was the law enforcement agency involved with the alleged crime. “I’m saddened by the situation,” Col. Tom Nesbit said in & statement. “Members of thisagency are like an extended family.... That’s why there is a somber mood among our officers and employees toddy. * $ . “I thfrik it’s important to note that the State Patrol took the appropriate action immediately when we learned about the situation.” Miller is being held in Lancaster County Jail and awaits appearance in court today or Friday.
