court after being shot in the leg on
Frida, police said.

One of the men pointed a gun at

“I think it’s a unique perspective
having graduate and undergraduate stu
dents’ thoughts in the same class,”
Hamilton said.
Michael Gilmour, third-year law
student, said he likes having the honors
undergraduates in the class.
“It was a little odd at first because,
generally, undergraduates don’t set foot
inside this building,” Gilmour said. “...
Actually, it’s exciting to have new peo

can seem like a jail.”
Kayla Dick, a junior English major,
said she’d probably never look at anoth
er lawyer movie in the same way again.
She now can see the differences
between what happens to lawyers in
film and in real life.
“I think (this class) has confirmed
my decision about going to law school,”
Dick said.
Miss USA crowned in Missouri
BRANSON, Mo. (AP) - The
newly crowned Miss USA says she
hopes her accomplishment will serve
as encouragement for adopted chil
dren.
That’s because Lynnette Cole is
an adoptee herself.
“One good thing about this title is
that I can tell them that just because
you are adopted does not mean that
there is anything wrong - you’re very
special,” the 21-year-old Miss
Tennessee said Friday night after
being crowned Miss USA 2000 at
Branson’s Grand Palace.
Cole, a pre-law student at
Columbia State Community College,
amus£d the crowd after the pageant
by answering some silly questions
with a deadpan expression.
Asked why male beauty pageants
are not popular, she answered:
“Because they don’t look good in
dresses.”
Asked where she was going to
store her crown: “On my head.”
Cole moves on to compete in the
Miss Universe Pageant in Nicosia,
Cyprus, on May 12, and becomes the
Miss Universe Organization’s official
spokeswoman for breast and ovarian
cancer awareness.
Carson Daly of MTV was the
master of ceremonies. Grammy nom
inees Christina Aguilera, Brian
McKnight and Lou Bega performed.
