After putting extensive time and effort into a project such as this, it would be very dif ficult to accept the criticism that Mr. Bock offers. His column, however, was not ill researched. The information that Mr. Bock based the column upon is the same information that is readily avail able to every student at the University. Do you expect every student who con templates forming an unfavorable opin ion about the NUtodo Web site or NU Directions to contact the NU Directions office and get a brief history of the orga nization? I think you are pointing your finger in the wrong direction. If you would like students to be informed about what your organization does, you must inform them. Students cannot be expected to seek out that information. It is because of that lack of informa tion that I can assure you Tony Bock is not the only student with the opinion he shared on Tuesday. Everyone I spoke with about the column at least partially echoed the opinions shared. Luckily, Mr. Workman, there is a medium through which you have the opportunity to inform the students about NUtodo and NU Directions and also get feedback from them. Tony Bock, Seth I. Witkowicz and I host “Hot Lunch,” a call-in talk show on 90.3 KRNU radio that airs from 11 p.m. Monday to 1 a.m Tuesday. We would like to invite you or someone from your office to appear on the show on Jan 31. Our audience is a diverse representation of the student body including members of the Greek community, people who live in the residence halls and students who live off campus. I think it would be an excellent opportunity for you to find out what stu dents really want from NU Directions. I sincerely hope that you accept the invi tation, Mr. Workman. Our e-mail address is kmuhotlunch@hotmail.com, and we look forward to hearing from you. Matthew G. From what they tend to write, that seems appropriate. Tim Larson UNL class of’85 0 Did she or didn’t she? Jeremy Patrick’s (Jan. 26) column, “Columbine myth an example of lazy news reading,” conveniently blames the Cassie Bemall story on the media, and not the incomplete research of the jour nalists. Hello, Jeremy? Your column is a rehash of the story put forth by the online magazine, “Salon.com” subtitled “Everything You Know About the Littleton Killings Is Wrong” (Sept. 23). On the Cassie Bemall Web site, Wendy Murray Zoba examines the conflicting Columbine stories and contradicts Dave Cullen’s attempts at debunking several “notori ous events” associated with the Columbine massacre. Jeremy, did you happen to read the Web site, in which Cassie’s mother, Misty, said she had heard about the same conflicting stories during her writ ing of the book about her daughter? Misty Bemall stated, “at that point we stopped work and re- v ^5 . inter viewed several witnesses. We strove to tell our daughter’s story as honestly as we possi bly could.” Zoba, an associate editor at Christianity Today, interviewed stu dents who were ‘m the library that day and named her sources. The named wit nesses stand by their story regarding Cassie’s conversation with die killer. Sorry Jeremy, it DID happen! Cassie DID say “yes.” Why did we not read about any of Zoba’s interviews in your column? Didn’t want to challenge the testi mony of named witnesses? Don’t blame the media, when your own research is seriously incomplete, in order to sup port your view on life. Your article sup ports your own conclusion, “the only thing we can do is be skeptical of what we read.” Tsk! Tsk! Tsk! For those interested in reading Zoba’s article, you can find it at http://www.cassieberqall.oig/did_she_ or_didnt_she.htm Jeremy, we need to keep praying and start acting. David J.
