refused her boyfriend’s engage
ment ring the first time he offered
it to her.

Lienemann didn’t notice it in the
refrigerator because she was drinking Dr. Pepper.
Harris then thought he could give the can to her at lunch
on Saturday morning. But Lienemann told him she wanted
to eat out at Runza.
Harris was still trying to ask her.
“All weekend Kirtis had been saying, ‘Will you marry
me, will you marry me?’” Lienemann said. “I said, ‘Yes,
I’ll marry you, but how will I know it’s for real?”’
