* ■ Police: Burglars damage three Lincoln businesses ■ Brick were used in all three burglaries, which police think are connected. By MkheUe Starr ! Staff writer After throwing bricks through - glass doors, burglars entered three southeast Lincoln businesses early Wednesday morning. The three burglaries appear to be connected because the same red-col ored brick was used, Lincoln Police Ofc. Katherine Finnell said. At 4:30 a.m., a paperboy on his morning route noticed a glass door of Colby Ridge Popcorn, 4240 S. 48th St., had been smashed with a brick. A reported $146 in cash was taken, and $400 in damages was made to Colby Ridge Popcorn. After the break-in report was made, officers in the southeast area began patrolling the area’s businesses and noticed two other break-ins, Finnell said. The second burglary occurred at Mr. Goodcents Subs and Pasta, 4333 S. 70th Suite 1. The burglary occurred between 9:45 Tuesday night and 4:58 Wednesday morning, when police found the smashed-in glass door. The door was fixed by opening time, said co-owner and operator Jeff Barclay. Mr. Goodcents Subs and Pasta’s ” It’s very ^ inconvenient and unfortunate that people do that.” Dave Winter owner of Williams Cleaners safe and its contents were taken, and $300 in damages were reported. Barclay didn’t specify the amount of money in the safe but estimated a total of $800 to $1,000. Williams Cleaners in Suite 8 of the same shopping complex was the third victim. Once again the front glass was smashed with a brick between 6:30 Tuesday night after the business closed and 4:58 Wednesday morning. Other than the $270 in damages, nothing was taken; the burglars only made a mess, Finnell said. Dave Winter, owner of Williams Cleaners, said he was disappointed. “It’s very inconvenient and unfor tunate that people do that,” he said. “But, it’s not as bad as it could have been.” Williams Cleaners was open Wednesday after about an hour of clean-up, Winter said. There were no suspects, police said Wednesday. Corrections The Academic Senate’s academic standards committee has reviewed more than 200 appeals of academi cally dismissed students each year for the past four years. The number of appeals was stated incorrectly in Wednesday’s Daily Nebraskan. *** Last semester, the Association of Students of the University of Nebraska approved voting rules that said candidates’ party names would appear on the ballots. In Wednesday’s DN, this information was misstated. 475-RIDE Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night 11:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. Must present NU student ID HOW TO USE NU ON WHEELS: 1) Call 475-RIDE. 2) Give your name, pick-up location and exact home address. 3) Wait at pick-up location.
