Haymarket galleries celebrate the holidays HAYMARKKT from page 9 She said despite the often cold temperatures, the events tended to attract a large number of people. “The entertainment and stuff is on the street, so people are walking around, and we have lights on the sidewalks, and you can hear music everywhere you go,” Harms said. “So it gives a pretty warm feeling. We get a lot of crowds gathering around-the music and even standing out in the cold to listen to diem. It’s really nice.” Many of the galleries featured in tonight’s gallery walk are showcas ing art that seems to be more timely for the holiday season. The Haydon Gallery, 335 N. Eighth St., is hosting its 13th annual “Small Treasures” exhibition, a col lection of small works by more than 100 artists using a wide variety of styles, media and imagery. Anne Pagel, the Haydon’s direc tor, said over the years the event has " become a momentous occasion. “The artists and the public have become very interested,” she said. “It’s one of the times that you can walk into the Haydon and see the works from all the artists we repre sent. It’s very diverse and wide rang ing in style and price.” She said the gallery walk and the “Holidays in the Haymarket” events worked well together. “We found that if we kind of linked the ‘Holidays in the Haymarket’ to the gallery openings, which people already know about, they’ll come for both,” Pagel said. Gallery 9, 124 S. Ninth Si, is also offering a timely exhibit for the holiday season. Judith Andre, Gallery 9’s director, said “Wrapped up in Art,” Gallery 9’s annual all member show, features a wide vari ety of artistic styles and themes. “We have large pieces, and we try to have a lot of smaller pieces as well,” Andre said. “We try to have a lot of things up, everything from greeting cards and ornaments to paintings and sculptures.” She said the art was all for sale and that many Lincoln residents were buying various items. Harms said tonight’s event would probably draw about 1,000 people, simply because, just like Christmas, it only comes around once a year. “I think the gallery walk and the ‘Holidays in the Haymarket’ events kind of feed off of each other,” Harms said. “This is really the only time peo ple have the opportunity to go to both events at once.” 5£ff~ f'j ACCTT7TT7nC 20 Nebraska Union I / 1 I I 1 I I 1 I I $0.75 billing charge P.O.
