Trout worked as a supervisor for
the project and is the chairwoman of
Kim’s master of arts thesis commit
tee. She said Kim’s work is highly
original.
“I don’t think there’s a way to cat
egorize it,” Trout said.
Trout said Kim’s preparation
before she started work contributed
to the success of Kim’s designs.
“I don’t think any students have
done it on this level,” she said. “One
of the reasons for her success is that
she spent a great deal of time study
ing both groups of designers. Her
careful preparation beforehand had a
lot to do with her success, motivation
and creativity.”
“East Meets West” kicks off with
an opening reception at 6 tonight.
The exhibit will run until Jan. 21.

“I think her work is very strong,”
he said. “Everything she does shows
evidence of a considerable amount of
care and painstaking effort to execute
it to her satisfaction.”
An opening reception for “Visual
Nuances” will take place on Tuesday
from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Great Hall of
the art gallery. On Dec. 15 at 12:15
p.m., Burton and Siedell will present
a gallery talk.
For Burton, the exhibition is “the
thrill of a lifetime,” but even more
important is the work itself.
“I find attachments in all kinds of
things, like memories,” she said.
“There’s no hidden meanings in (the
works), but they are personal to me.” '
