Trade in stress for laughs at By Diane Broderick Staff writer This weekend, students weary with the upcoming threat of final projects and tests have another, much more appealing option. A comedy, music and dance-fest will overtake Temptations, 1600 O St., and offer Lincoln more than eight hours of stress-relieving entertainment. Doors will open at 7 p.m., and from 8 to 10 p.m. a comedy show featuring Midwest artists Jabber Gold and Kat James will ensue. Each of the performers has had sev eral Funny Bone Comedy Club appear ances, and Gold has performed on Black Entertainment Television’s “Comic View.” James performs regularly in Omaha and specializes in improvisation. She is, she has proclaimed, “pound for pound - one of the funniest women around.” Along with the comedy stylings, several local artists will be performing as well. As an opening to the stand-up, R & B musician Pleasure will perform for 15 to 30 minutes. Pleasure is an out-of state artist who will perform both origi nal and already known works. After Gold and James’ perfor mances, TDC will take the stage to per form three songs. TDC is originally from Lincoln, but he spent time in New York and recently released a compact disc recorded in Texas. TDC’s sound is what he calls mil lennium soul funk, and he has per formed recently at Temptations. Temptations will then revert to what it is normally known for: a dance club. At least three disc jockeys will be pre sent, including DJ Mo Smooth from Omaha. After normal club hours pass, an after-party will follow with more DJ music and 1-Loc, an Omaha artist, will perform some original music. The after-party hours will extend to 4 or 5 a.m., said Kenneth Johnson, owner of N-Da-Mixx, 2712 Y St. Johnson was integral in organizing Saturday’s event, along with Mike Ware, who has coordinated similar con certs in Omaha. Johnson hopes this will be the first step in a long line of larger shows to come to Lincoln. He has worked to bring artists such as Vanilla Ice, Salt-n Pepa and Digital Underground to town. The Comedy Jam is not the only show Johnson has going Saturday night. Okay folks, now you’re wondering- why does this car have as its “most important feature" a medallion of Our Holy Lady? Well, I was driving along one day and spot ted this little black 1987 Ford Tempo, 4 door, boppin’ along with 4 nuns in it and a “for sale” sign in the window. Well, my girlfriend needed a car, so we called the number. As luck would have it, the nuns were Mexico The Daughters of the Holy Spirit, to be exact. That worked well for us, because my girlfriend is from Costa Rica and Spanish is her native tongue. Anyway, one thing led to another and we bought the car. sister Mar garita Iturbide, as a part of the deal, left the Holy Mother medallion on the dash and said a blessing over the car before I drove away with the Holy Mary watching over me. So why do I want to sell it? Well, my girlfriend has never learned how to drive it- it’s a manual. She’s driving my car and I want it back. So we need to sell this one and buy her an automatic. This car really is a good car. It doesn’t use any oil and gets about 26mi around town. I need $1,300 for it. If you’re in the market for a good school car and want one that has a divine force watching over it, then call Tim Sullivan at 465-0026. You’ll blessed. 300s SMVlCK Adoption Happy, secure couple awaits newborn to show them the marvel of life. In return we will provide loads of love, laughter, and opportunity. Expenses paid.
