Forum will seek to bridge gender gap ■ The panel, presented by Phi Mu Sorority, will feature student speakers. By Sonja Hegge Staff writer Phi Mu Sorority is urging stu dents to explore what men and women are really saying to each other. The sorority’s Gender Gap pre sentation, which will explore dating and other gender-related issues, will be held tonight at 7 p.m. at the NU Coliseum. Carol Ann Hawkins, a facilitator from the Phi Mu National Office, said the interactive program will result in awareness of the difference between perception and reality in gender rela tions. The program, created in 1989 by the national Phi Mu office, will pro vide discussion between an audience and a diverse panel of six to 10 UNL student leaders. “The goal of Gender Gap is to open the lines of communication between the sexes to distinguish per ception from fact,” said junior adver tising major Amanda Taylor, Gender Gap co-coordinator. Although the event is making its first appearance at UNL, co-coordi nator Molly Egley has seen it work. “I saw this program presented at the national convention in Palm Springs, Calif., last summer and I wanted to bring it back to UNL,” said Egley, a junior communication stud ies major. Audience members are able to ask panelists questions from micro phones placed throughout the colise um. Egley and Taylor said they recruited panelists from different ages, backgrounds and relationship statuses for the event, which is spon sored by Panhellenic and the Interfratemity Council. “We have greeks, nongreeks, sin gle people and married people,” said Egely. “They range from freshmen to graduate students.” The panelists include former ASUN President Sara Russell, Interfratemity Council President Michael Consbruck and Sandoz Student Assistant Tarina Cox. Egley said she hopes the audience Is similarly diverse because the Issues discussed are pertinent to all students. “The program is different every time,” Egley said, “because it is the audience who determines what issues are discussed.” Two Words: grant funding Want to get a jump on the competition?
