    St. Mark’s to sponsor Doom
or Bloom’ contest
As the year 2000 approaches, peo
ple all over the world are preparing for
what it may bring.
Many are buying generators, extra
food and extra supplies.
But Saint Mark’s on the Campus
Episcopal Church, 1309 R St., is using
the coming of the millennium in anoth
er way.
The church is sponsoring a writ
ing/art contest titled “Doom or Bloom?
Creative Christian Visions of the New
Millennium.”
“The contest brings attention on the
new millennium from a Christian view
point,” said Margo Young, a member of
St. Mark’s Committee on the Arts.
Some Christians may associate the
millennium with the Day of Wrath, or
Judgment Day, while others may see it
as a time of rebirth and renewal. From
these different views came the “Doom
or Bloom” theme.
The contest is open to the communi
ty and includes short stories, poems,
imaginative essays and reproducible
black and white artwork and photos that
represent the full range of attitudes and
perspectives.
Entries are due June 15 at the
church office. There will be $50 prizes
awarded to the winners of four cate
gories: visual art, poetry, nonfiction and
fiction. All written submissions have a
1000 word limit.
In the fall, St. Mark’s will publish a
selection of the entries.
For more information on the con
test, contact St. Mark’s at (402) 474
1979.

A supplemental lecture series
begins April 11, while a film series,
featuring both Hollywood and

Steven Spielberg’s “Raiders of the

series July 16.
The exhibit’s strength lies in its
ability to cover an enormous time
span - 3,000 years worth of artifacts.
And for an ancient culture whose
reach has extended even into the Top

What people weren’t looking
for on the first Easter.
Instead people were searching for the body of Jesus of Nazareth. A man who had claimed to be God.
A man who said he would prove his deity by bodily rising from the dead. No other religious
leader has made such a claim and backed it up with such an event.
