The prosecutor feels otherwise/ E The opinion that counts is that 3 of Judge Stephen Johnson, who on Friday will determine whether Tyson’s latest comeback is done after just one fight. Johnson will sentence the fight er on two counts of second-degree assault, prompting a decision in Indiana on whether Tyson violated his probation for a 1991 rape con viction. “If he goes to jail here, it’s much, much more likely he’ll go to jail there,” Tyson’s lawyer Paul Kemp said. On Aug. 31, Tyson kicked one motorist and punched another after a minor three-car accident in the Washington suburb of Gaithersburg, Md. On Dec. 1, Tyson pleaded no contest - mean ing he neither protests the assault charges nor admits guilt - and could receive up to 20 years’ imprisonment. “He acted inappropriately that day,” Tyson’s wife, Monica, who was driving when the accident occurred, told The Washington Post. “But he never intentionally struck anyone.” The two victims, Abmielec Saucedo and Richard Hardick, were paid an undisclosed amount to avoid a civil suit shortly before Tyson’s plea. Both will be present Friday, ready to testify on Tyson’s behalf. “Any inference that we’ve been purchased or bribed is off the wall,” said Saucedo’s lawyer, Glenn Culpepper. “From the very begin ning, my client said he didn’t want him to be convicted; he wanted him to be helped.” Tyson’s lawyer, who will ask for probation, plans to call character witnesses, including one from a Washington homeless shelter where Tyson has been doing volun teer work. He will also point out Tyson’s goodwill acts while train ing in Arizona - he visited teen-age inmates and paid for the funeral of a 2-year-old girl who was shot to death. Tyson, who lives in Bethesda, Md., is undergoing therapy at Georgetown University. Gomez eager to hit the mat for NU team GOMEZ from page 8 No. 3 guy,’ and he ended up beating me. If I think too much, it just gets to me.” Tonight, Gomez will head into his match against Valdez with the same philosophy while the rest of the Huskers try to avenge a 31-12 loss they suffered to the Sooners at the National Duals. At tire previous meeting, NU com peted without four of its starters, including Gomez, who injured his ribs. With a healthy lineup and momentum from a 1-point upset over then-No. 4 Iowa State on Sunday, NU is expecting a different outcome with OU in tonight’s dual. ‘I’m looking forward to the compe tition,” Nebraska Coach Tim Neumann said. “If we just wrestle like we did against Iowa State, where we just wres tled the whole time and didn’t worry about the final outcome, we’ll be fine.” In other news, redshirt freshman Joe Henson, NU’s 149-pounder, was named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week after an 8-5 upset of Iowa State’s fifth ranked Cole Sanderson on Sunday. Henson’s upset helped the Nebraska wrestling team earn a 19-18 come-from-behind victory over ISU. raid Advertising Paid Advertising || BUSINESS REVIEW I COUNTY NEWS is solely responsible for sales, contents and collection of the Review Section J & W TIRE COMPANY “LOCALLY OWNED & OPERATED” Jack Lewis ~ Owner I Located at 446 4th Street in Syracuse, phone 269-3060, the J & W TIRE COMPANY is well known throughout the area as being one tire store where quality is just as important as price.
