Now, like race car driving, Richard’s BMX racing is a
sponsored affair.
He started out with local sponsors such as Aandvarxx
Tattooing, Bike Pedalers and Precision Skateboards, and
now he’s fully sponsored by bicycle manufacturer SE
Racing, which pays for his bikes, airline tickets, travel
expenses and his professional racer salary.
A unique UNL athlete
Since his chosen sport, arguably one of the most difficult around, isn’t
associated with the NU Athletic Department, Richard can’t take advantage of the
tutoring and gracious attendance policies given to athletes. Sometimes, this means
school takes a back seat.
Richard took a hiatus from the books during the 1997-98 academic year to move to
