Every year, the organization spon sors a conference to present informa tion on the latest trends in textiles and design. At the conference, the association sponsors both a mounted exhibition and a runway exhibition. Graduate and undergraduate students as well as fac ulty members can submit pieces to the exhibit. This year’s conference, held in Dallas, featured 50 exhibits out of 150 entries. The accepted works were mounted in a gallery exhibit for three days and then presented in a runway fashion show. Trout said the conference provided a chance for students to gain name recognition in the textiles field. “It allows students to get feedback about how their work is accepted and how their work competes in an interna tional setting,” Trout said. During the first show, which took place in St. Louis, cops showed up and interrupted the group in the middle of a song to interrogate lead singer, Andy Bopp. “After about 10 minutes they realized Andy wasn’t who they thought he was, and we were able to continue the show,” lead guitarist Max Mueller said. Further on down the road, the band hit its first snow storm of the year Sunday night in Iowa and got snarled in wreckage caused by the slippery roads. “Our trailer was hit by a tractor trailer and was damaged pretty bad,” Mueller said. “We had to take it to the dump this morning. Now every thing is loaded in the van that we are traveling in.” Love Nut will be pulling its packed van into Lincoln tonight to play at Duffy’s Tavern, where it has held its last three Lincoln concerts, all on Sunday nights. “We’re excited to be playing on a weeknight this time,” Mueller said. The band, which just celebrated its nine-year anniversary Saturday, is making its fifth Midwestern tour since the release of its second album, “Baltimucho,” in April. Love Nut’s first album, which members produced themselves, was released in 1995 on an indie label. The band soon abandoned its work with the company after several dis agreements. It may have been Love Nut’s best move. Now the band is working with producer Ed Stacy, who has also produced albums for u-1 Our music is kind of like melodic, British invasion, guitar rock Max Mueller Love Nut lead guitarist Mick Jagger, and is working under the label Big Deal. Although the band tours mainly in the Midwest, where it receives the most air play, Love Nut has played New York and its hometown city of Baltimore. Since the release of its second album, the group has toured on and off for the last six months. According to the band’s publi cist, Love Nut’s music consists of loud guitars and smooth harmony and is a mix of pop and hard rock. “Our music is kind of like melodic, British invasion, guitar rock,” said Mueller said. Although all the band members contribute ideas for songs, lead singer Andy Bopp writes most of the lyrics. “We’ll leave the hotel for an hour and come back, and he’ll have finished a song,” Mueller said. Mueller said most of the music the band will be playing will come from its second album, but it will play some old-school stuff as well. Love Nut will be opening for local band the Mediums.
