ISU battled the wintry conditions and the No. 11 Nebraska Comhuskers, and came out on the short end of both in a 42-7 loss. “It didn’t turn out the way we wanted,” senior quarterback Todd Bandhauer said. “(Weather) is a part of the game. You have to deal with the elements.” The elements may have not been good, but ISU Coach Dan McCamey said the mistakes the Cyclones made were worse, Iowa State had four turnovers, and was called for nine penalties for 70 yards. Nebraska capitalized on the Cyclone turnovers, scoring 21 Doints. McCamey said the most crucial turnover came with two minutes, 28 seconds remaining in the first quarter. After NU went three-and-out, junior Jamarcus Powers tipped a Husker punt that traveled 14 yards. Junior Jarrott Lollis attempted to return the punt but fum bled and was recovered by Nebraska’s Josh Kohl on the ISU 42-yard line. ^ NU scored five plays later when I-back Dan Alexander scored on a 9-yard touchdown, one of three Alexander had in the game. “The mistake we made there was a critical one,” McCamey said. “We coach that in every special teams meet ing, but we just didn’t do a good enough job.” The Cyclones lost only that one fumble, but Bandhauer also had a hand in the Iowa State turnover problem. Last week, Bandhauer threw two interceptions in a 17-14 loss to Oklahoma. On Saturday, Husker defensive backs picked off Bandhauer three times. Please see ISU on 11
