Homeless man shot
Wednesday afternoon, police were
looking for the trigger man in a Tuesday
night shooting that injured a homeless
man.
The 31 -year-old victim was listed in
critical condition Wednesday afternoon
at BryanLGH West Medical Center,
where he was taken for treatment of the
bullet lodged in his hip, hospital offi
cials said.
The shooting happened at 9:40 p.m.
in the parking lot and street near the
apartment building on the 2400block of
Vine Street, Lincoln Police Sgt. Ann
Heermann said.
At the hospital, the victim told
police he was sitting in his car near 25th
and U street^ talking to a friend when
another man approached from a blue
Cadillac parked in the apartment build
ing lot.
The man pulled a handgun from his
hip and started shooting at the victim.
One shot lodged in the victim’s hip,
and others bounced off the hood of the
car, denting it. The dents led police to
believe a small-caliber weapon was
used because the bullets did not go
through the car’s body.
The police report did not mention
where the victim’s friend was during the
shooting or if the victim had gotten out
of the car before he was shot, Heermann
said.
The victim then drove himself to N
Street Drive-in Package Liquor and
Beer, 19th and N streets, and ran inside
saying he had been shot.
Police found several shell casings in
the apartment parking lot, though the
caliber was not identified in the report
The shooter is described as 19 years
old, 6 feet tall and 150 pounds, with a
slender build. Witnesses said he had
dark skin, possibly of mixed black and
Hispanic races, Heermann said
Bond denied in murder case
A Denver judge denied bond
Wednesday to twins from Council
Bluffs, Iowa, accused of first-degree
murder in connection with an Oct. 3
stabbing death.

were charged last week along with two
oftheir companions, Joshua Wright, 18,
of Westminster, and Kevin Snyder, 19,
of Omaha.
Both of the Bills brothers were
UNL students last year, and David con
tinued to study here this^ear and
worked at Love Library. ' ^
Denver Police reports and affidavits
filed with the court state the four young
men broke up a domestic dispute that
morning, and then a fight started when
the assailant returned an hour later, in
which Perry was fatally stabbed.
The Bills brothers, Wright and
Snyder are being held without bond.
They are scheduled to be arraigned
before a district court judge Oct. 27.
Charges filed in child’s death
The couple accused of killing a 22
month-old boy were formally charged
in Lancaster County Court on Wednes
day.
Both Francisca Pleines and Vernon
Hayes were charged with homicide by
child abuse for the death of Pleines’ son,
Wyatt Campbell, Lancaster County
Attorney Gary Lacey said.
Campbell died early Saturday
morning at BryanLGH West Medical
Center after police and paramedics
were called to the couple’s home.
The case will likely be bound over
to the district court for trial because of
