Thanks to CDuctive, a new, interac tive Web site designed to let users create and cut their own, personalized compact discs, the time has come to throw out your tape-deck-laden boom box and groove into the 21st century. CDuctive, located, at www.cduc tive.com, was officially launched in January 1998 and has since signed more than 150 European and United States record labels, most of which have a focus on dance, electronica and indie music. According to Alan Manuel, one of the trio of site founders, CDuctive is a one-of-a-kind site. Manuel said he first came up with the idea after he noticed a lot of his friends came to him and asked him to help diem pick out music for their own personal collections. “A lot of people have difficulty find ing new artists and staying up with new music,” Manuel said. “The average person is familiar with the Internet, but would not go to the indie record shop and buy the tracks they like. This gives them a chance to be on top of things, and also only select the tracks they realty like.” CDuctive gives users the chance to look through thousands of song titles, listen to a portion of the track they choose, and then select up to 72 minutes worth of music that is then burned onto a personalized disc. The entire process is completely interactive, and customers can even pay for their orders via fax. He’s no spirit, demon or divine deity - he’s Junior Brown. Close enough. Junior Brown, one of country music’s few and true originals, is known and loved for his persistence in doing things his way. By combining a number of musical elements and adapting them to fit his style, Brown has concocted a unique recipe for an old-style country/rock ‘n’ roll shish kebab. Tonight Lincoln gets to take a bite. Brown and his crew will make the long haul from Texas to Lincoln for a show tonight at Guitars & Cadillacs, 54000 St. The tour is in support of Brown’s latest release “Long Walk Back,” one of his most musically diverse offer ings yet. Of his kaleidoscope style, Brown says it’s just the way he is. “Fve just always liked a lot of dif ferent kinds of music,” Brown said in a phone interview from Austin, Texas. “I don’t like to take on too many styles of music, but if you can pull it all into your own personal style and make it your own, it really works. But the material has to be stuff that you can justify as doing yourself.” With everything Brown has done, justification should be his middle name.
