Jim Rome “TOkome lb The Jungle” Outpost Recordings Grade: A The “Jungle” is blowing up - and now you can get a piece of it for your very own. Jim Rome, the occasionally contro versial host of the sportsradio program, “The Jim Rome Show,” AKA “the Jungle,” has not been giving himself enougn creuu lately. The show, which began with a single radio station in San Diego, is now syndi cated to more than 100 affiliates nation wide, including Lincoln’s own 1480 KLMS, where it’s aired weekdays from 11 am to3p.m. A lot of people i listen to the show on f. a daily basis. These j people have received die insulting title of “clones” by none other than Rome himself. Sometimes these clones choose to not have jobs so they can lis ten to the show for all four hours each weekday. They also are known to schedule their sleeping patterns around the show, bring “Jungle” signs to World Wrestling Federation events and wait on hold for up to 200 minutes to talk to Rome. However, their calls frequently end when they get run from the phone line for having a bad take, or opinioa Clones will be happy to hear that the other 20 hours of the day won’t have to be spent in complete boredom. They now can run to the nearest record store and purchase “Welcome To The Jungle,” a record that will keep the old fans happy while introducing new lis teners to ideas typical of the show. The album features a solid mix of host and listener takes along with music featured in the program, including its theme song, Guns 1ST Roses’ “Welcome to the Jungle.” Other memorable tracks include Kurtis Blow’s “The Breaks” and Crystal Method’s “Busy Child.” The hilarious radio takes are what really make this album unique, though. “Jungle” favorites including NA5UAK, “Spelling Bee” and “Karma” all make their due appearances along with some fresh laughs and new twists. Of course, Rome puts in plenty of the funnier clone quotes to round out the album. The funny lines included are some of die best listens here, especially the grand finale, a 17-minute “What is Smack?” Since the “Jungle” is such a popular program, it is hard to include everything on the album. However, the lack of the “Slumpbuster” take by Chicago Cub first baseman Mark Grace brings the album grade down a bit Apparently, Rome has promised three tour stops before the end of the year, with Omaha being considered as a front runner. The “King of Smack” did promise a trip if the Husker football team won the championship last season. With that in mind, he should be on his way real soon.
