Compiled by Senior Reporter Josh Funk Nebraska Center facelift pays off By Anne Heitz Staff Reporter A building that opened almost 40 years ago on campus has been given new life to attract businesses and conference groups. The Nebraska Center foi Continuing Education on Easl Campus has undergone renovations since 1991 to improve the learning and living environment for its guests. As a result, business has increased, said Kelly Clark, Nebraska Center director. Most oi the remodeling is complete. “People are very impressed with the changes,” Clark said. “We have features that people have to go to the coast to find.” The brown and orange shades that used to dominate the walls have been replaced by softer pastels. But the center’s major advantage is its new technological facilities, Clark said. The center has been hooked up to Nebraska Educational Telecommunications, the compre hensive network that includes the Nebraska ETV Network, radio, Internet and many distance educa tion services. These features could help the Nebraska Center become a part of the International Association of Conference Centers, Clark said. Along with offering high-tech conference rooms, the Nebraska Center has 96 hotel rooms that are open to anyone. These guest rooms feature king sized beds and fluffy wrap-around towels. Guests receive free continen tal breakfasts. Dick Williams, director of food service, said the total image presen tation of the food service department also has changed for the better. “We have new china, glassware, and flatware, which have all improved the image for the guests,” Williams said. “Our serving rooms are much more efficient to handle large events^ “The changes have made a good impression.” Clark is looking forward to busi ness increasing further as more peo ple learn about the newly remodeled building at 33rd and Holdrege streets. “We’re trying to reach out and let everyone know it’s here,” Clark said. • I Been there?
