UNL students’ plays
JVeic actors* directors given exposure

They’re the freshest talent the
theatre department has to offer.
And some of them may be onstage
for the first time this weekend.
The Nebraska Masquers’ One
Act Play Festival, a production
completely done by University of
Nebraska-Lincoln students, opens
this weekend.
Darren Warner, producer of the
festival, said this year’s produc
tions are mostly comedies.
“We have satire, dark comedy
and farce,” Warner said. “They are
all different styles.”
The Nebraska Masquers’
Festival is a vearlv rnmnetitinn
that started in 1992. A panel of
student judges puts out a call for
one-act plays, and four are chosen
to be produced out of the appli
cants.
The plays chosen this year are
“When the Butler Tries to Do It”
by Jason Ehlers, “Five
Playwrights” by Gregory Peters,
“Hot Rods” by Rebecca Key and
“Las Vegas Lifestyles” by
Michelle Brown.
Warner said this type of a pro
duction is something unique for
people to come and see.
“The entire production is total
ly student-produced, which gives
the audience the chance to see
what kind of dangs the university
is really doing,*’ he said. “It also
gives them a chance to view some
of the new actors and directors,
most of whom are freshmen and
sophomores, that aren’t seen on

Act Play Festival begins tonight
and runs through Saturday. All
shows begin at 8 p.m. and are in
