He completed ' his doctorate from Cairo University in Egypt Merira Kwesi specializes in African fashion and culture. She will give a slide presentation highlighting African symbols and signs that have impacted the Western world. She completed her doctorate from the University of Madrid in Spain. The couple devotes most of their time to speaking across the country, in addition to running their documentary production studio, Kemet New Productions, in Dallas. Past productions include “African Origin of Civilization” and “African History of Christianity.” Ashra Kwesi said the message he and his wife will deliver is appropriate for this week’s conference. “When you focus on the black fam ily you focus on values,” he said. “The family is a microcosm of a nation. History and legacy of that nation form family union.” Kwesi said they try not cmfy to edu cate their listeners, but also to inspire them to seek out knowledge on their own. “In terms of history that’s been dis torted, culture is important to anAfrican student who is oblivious to his or her own history. “We get a Western world perspec tive.
