Campus rec denied fee request By Jessica Fargen Assignment Reporter The Campus Recreation Center asked the Committee for Fees Allocation for a nearly $ 1.32 increase each semester for student fees, but Tuesday CFA recommended about a 13 cent - or .35 percent - increase. CFA members said they were look ing out for students’ pocketbooks amid the large increase in student fees, stem ming mainly from the Nebraska Unions’ budget request Matt Eickman, CFA member, said it was ‘“wise for students’ interest to wait another year.” The increase in funds is mainly for administrative costs and utilities, which are necessary to keep the facility run rung, Eickman said. Stan Campbell, director of campus rec said, “Utilities, administrative over head, maintenance - those are things that have to be done. We will have to cut something in order to fund those.” Members also said those increases reflected inflation costs, which were out of campus rec’s control. Campbell said campus rec was ask ing for more money from its operating budget to keep the climbing wall open extra hours and sustain the hours of pro grams such as injury prevention. But CFA members questioned the need to increase climbing wall hours. “If (students) really desire to use it they find the time to use it,” Bill Schellpeper, CFA member, said. Two Lincoln 17-year-olds entered the Amoco station at Northwest 12th and West Adams streets at 2 a.m., brandishing a small revolver, Lincoln Police Sgt. Todd Beam said.Then the clerk pulled out his own weapon and chased the two boys off firing a shot in the air outside the store. After the boys fled, police caught up to them near the scene. They were arrested and held for attempted rob bery. Description aids request A clerk’s calm disposition and good eye helped catch the man who robbed the Tanning Zone on North 66th Street just before 10 p.m. Monday. The robber waited in front of the store until the last customer left. Then he went inside, threatened the clerk and left with the money, Beam said. Using the clerk’s description of the suspect and his vehicle, police tracked the robber to the Days Inn on Northwest 12th Street by 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. Matthew G. Birchett, 21, of Dewitt, was arrested for robbery.
