False alarm in Oldfather
The fire department found no dan
ger at Oldfather Hall Monday after
noon after someone reported smelling
natural gas in the building.
Three fire engines, a deputy chief
and UNL police responded to what
turned out to be a false alarm. There is
no natural gas service in the building,
said Jim DeCamp, UNL plumbing
supervisor.
DeCamp led firefighters through
the building to satisfy their curiosity
before they declared the scene safe. The
building was not evacuated.
Amig06 manager nearly robbed
An Amigos restaurant manager was
assaulted in a failed robbery while mak
ing a deposit early Monday morning.
The manager was making his night
ly deposit at Havelock Bank, 56* Street
and Old Cheney Road, at 4 a.m. He was
at the drive-up window when a white
two-door sedan stopped beside the
manager’s car, Lincoln Police Sgt. Ann
Heermann said.
Someone in the white car pulled out
a gun and demanded the money.
The manager sped away in his car.
As he accelerated out of the drive
through, he heard a sharp crack as his
passenger window shattered.
He was not hurt, and he escaped
with the deposit. The damage to the
window was about $100.
Police make drug arrest
Police discovered more than 50
grams of methamphetamine in one
man’s possession Friday evening.
Police stopped Iai Minh Lee on N
Street, because they believed he was
carrying a controlled substance.
After Lee submitted to a search, offi
cers found 11.5 grams of metham
phetamine in his coat, Heermann
said.
Police then searched Lee’s apart
ment in the 500 block of South 12th
Street where they found 41.5 grams
of methamphetamine.
Lee had almost two ounces of
methamphetamine, which is consid
ered a significant amount, Lincoln
Police Narcotics Capt. Duane
Bullock said. Possession of any
amount of methamphetamine is a
felony.Lee was arrested for posses
sion of a controlled substance and
possession with the intent to deliver, f
both of which are felony offenses.
