.'Stay 100 feet snowplows... Teams vie for division title SOUTH from page 7 of its own destiny, but three of its last four games are on the road, including this Saturday at Texas A&M. The Cowboys do get Texas Tech at home and have already beaten Texas, who could play the spoiler for the other two teams. OSU also has the benefit of not having to play Nebraska or Kansas State, two teams Tech has to play. Texas A&M lost to the Wildcats ear lier this month but doesn’t play Nebraska. “We’re taking it a game at a time right now,”. OSU Coach Bob Simmons said. “We’ve got a big game against Texas A&M this week and we’re not looking anywhere past that.” Texas Tech has the toughest of the remaining three schedules. Tech has a home date against No. 12 Kansas State, a game at Oklahoma State and another road contest at Texas. The Red Raiders have been very good this season at times, as evidenced in the win over the Aggies, and poor, as in the 30-27 loss to North Texas. “We just have to play out our I I I I I I ■illi f§^— We ve got a bunch of tough games ahead of us still, and we can’t worry about a conference title Spike Dykes Texas Tech coach hand,” Tech Coach Spike Dykes said. “We’ve got a bunch of tough games ahead of us still, and we can’t worry about a conference title.” Texas A&M can play its way back into the race with a win over Oklahoma State on Saturday, but would lose a tie-breaker with Texas Tech at the end of the season. The Aggies play Texas the day after Thanksgiving, plus have remaining contests against Oklahoma and Baylor. “Oklahoma State is still the front runner,” Slocum said, “but they’ve lost a game now, so we have a chance to catch them. But we have to win this Saturday.” The wild card in the race could be the Longhorns. Mathematically, UT could win its last four games, finish 5-3 in the conference and win the South, but would need the Cowboys to lose three of their four remaining games. Oklahoma is in the same &iraa tion, but would need to beat Nebraska, OSU, Texas Tech and Texas A&M. At 0-4, Baylor has no chance of winning the conference. Mackovic said he has a feeling nothing will be decided about the South until the final weekend. “It could come down to our game with Texas A&M to see who wins the title,” he said. “It could be won before that, but it will come down to the last few games of the season.” I Now jot cat afford to hut a lev copter for school csmurto' 486 & Pentioin bundles • Notebooks from $399 330 North 43th Street • 435-4040 Attention /futel&fie *VMey Study Towiuiall II Come and Tell Us Your Views A DRAFT single package of recommendations will be presented for stormwater, transportation and community revitalization concepts. j£; ..
