Job fair can help all students
Wide variety of companies, corporations to appear
By Josh Funk
Assignment Reporter
The Bob Devaney Sports Center
will play host to a record number of
employers at this year’s Career
Connections job fair.
More than 129 employers and
62 graduate schools will be there to
meet with students from 9 a.m. to 3
p.m. The fair is sponsored by 18
Nebraska universities and colleges.
“Students should invest an hour
or two of their time to meet with
these employers because it is a huge
savings of time and effort,” said
Geri Cotter, assistant director of the
University of Nebraska-Lincoln
Career Services Center.
Career fairs are a good opportu
nity for all students to learn some
thing, Cotter said.
“Freshmen and so ph omores
should go to explore careers;
juniors should be looking for
internships; and seniors should be
looking for a job,” Cotter said.
Job fairs provide the opportuni
ty to meet with many different
prospective employers and learn
what is out there, Cotter said.
“Students should dress the way
they want to be viewed by employ
ers and have a resume with them,”
Cotter said.
There will be employers and
schools there from across the coun
try, including IBM, Sprint and The
Black & Decker Corp.
“Even if none of the company
names appeal to you, you should
still go because there are lots of
opportunities within big corpora
tions,” Cotter said.1
There also will be a presentation
about opportunities in Nebraska.
“There has been a concern
about losing talented students to
other states, so we want to show stu
dents what is out there in
Nebraska,” Cotter said.
From 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
UNL student athletes will model
clothing in a business attire fashion
show.
Cotter said more students
should make time to attend the
event.
“We have students drive all the
way from Chadron for this, but
many UNL students don’t take
advantage of it,” Cotter said.
