But people are noticing us; people are staring.” Students Tuesday slowed to look at the huts, structures patched together with card board and duct tape bearing written messages such as “If you think it’s cold today, try living like this all year.” Chris Stone, a sophomore dietetics major, Habitat for Humanity member and Shantytown project coordinator, said the pro ject’s goal was to show UNL students they could make a difference. Signs posted on the huts note that if each UNL student contributed one dollar, Habitat for Humanity would have enough money to build a house for a needy family. Stone said about 50 students have partici pated in Shantytown to this point. She said her group was still trying to fill time slots for tonight, Thursday evening, Friday and Saturday. She said all students were invited to participate and could contact her at 436-9473. Sponsored by: Well Worth It Program University Health Center Homecoming Committee Campus Recreation <'/'/,,ial Responsibility Committee From Staff Reports || | ^ Sometimes, crime doesn’t pay. Sometimes, comers can’t be cut, even if it is for Homecoming. Four Sigma Alpha Epsilon mem bers found out early Tuesday morn ing that sometimes, it’s best to go to the lumberyard. Four members - Tyler Adamson, 18; Matthew Glather, 19; Andrew Havelka, 19; and Mark Gifford, 19; all of 635 N. 16th St. - went to 3220 N. 14th St. to a construction site. They needed wood for their Homecoming float. Leaving the site between 1:30 and 1:58 a.m., the four pulled out of the site with $ 110 worth of lumber in the back of a 1997 Chevy S-10. Going a little too fast, the truck drew the eye of Lincoln Police Officer Robert Butler. He watched as a board fell out of the back of the speeding truck. Butler pulled the truck over, and discovered that the four men h&dlrtot been to the lumberyard. In fact, they had been to the construction site run by Horner Construction, an Omaha company. Butler cited the four for theft. LAUNCH MORE THAN A CAREER 1-800-USA-NAVY. World Wlda Web: http://www.navyjobs.com SPMN6 BREAK '98l
