About The daily Nebraskan. ([Lincoln, Neb.) 1901-current | View Entire Issue (Oct. 13, 1997)
Pepsi cans and the parking garage were among the issues for which the 1997 Homecoming Royalty Court had ideas. They took on cultural diversity, the grading system, technology, tuition costs and student apathy as more serious subjects. Jody Ambroz described the University of Nebraska-Lincoln as part of a bigger picture. “The most pressing issue at UNL is constantly keeping up with the world around us. UNL is just a small community in which we learn so that we can make a difference in our lifetime. We need to face campus issues ... so we will be knowledgeable about how to live our lives outside UNL and be J responsible citizens.” I Using seven questions, the Daily Nebraskan picked the brains of the 22 I homecoming royalty to learn more about their dedication, achievements, 1 opinions and humor. The answers were mostly serious, but sometimes silly. Brian Oxley suggested the best stall in the parking garage go to the stu dent who has paid the most parking tickets. “If they have given that much to the university, they deserve it,” he said. And when deciding what to do with 6,000 Pepsi cans, Devin Rickett said, “Picture this: a huge cola and aluminum bust of ASUN President Curt Ruwe in greenspace. Let’s get started!” The following questions were asked of the candidates, with selected responses printed below. 1. What do you see as the most pressing issue at UNL and why? 2.
