Defense keys to NU wins VOLLEY from page 8 said. After Kansas State hit .148 in the first game, a 16-14 KSU win, NU held the Wildcats to .075 during games two and three behind the play of middle blocker Megan Korver. Korver had 14 kills and a career high nine block assists. The 6-foot-1 junior said the key to the Huskers’ defense is setting up the block. “The ball goes through the block, over the block, around the block before it gets to the back row. If you get the block, it deflates the other team and gives our team confidence,” Korver said. Defense wasn’t the only savior for the Huskers. Reitsma was one of four Huskers with 14 or more kills. Reitsma’s 26 kills led NU, but she said the strong defensive play in the last three games could be a sign of what’s to come this fall. “I think it’s all coming together,” Reitsma said. “The team’s all getting used to each other, you can definitely see that.” Keep recycling working. Hanne Nyquist’s 79 was the team’s low round for the day. Hornecker made a fast recov ery on Friday and shot a NU low round of 72, but the team was still in 16th place after 36 holes. Krapfl said Hornecker really gutted it out on Friday. “Sometimes when you are sick, you don’t put as much pressure on yourself to make shots because you are just trying to make it through the round,” Krapfl said. Hornecker came back to shoot a 79 on Saturday. Nyquist’s final two rounds of 73 enabled her to finish in 21st place with a score of 225. Krapfl said the play of Nyquist and Hornecker were positives for the Huskers. She also thought the tournament pinpointed some of the weaknesses the team needs to work on. NU will try to be mentally tougher, Krapfl said, and play bet ter around the greens at the Coal Creek Golf Course in Boulder. She said playing 36 holes on Monday will be physically demanding, but Nebraska needs to play a lot of golf right now to get into golf playing shape. “Hopefully the girls will approach the tournament as a chal lenge and play well,” Krapfl said. “We would like to win this tourna ment.” NU will face several Big 12 teams, including a Missouri squad that defeated the Huskers at two of their first meets. “Facing Missouri should give us a little added incentive,” Krapfl said. “We think we are a better team than them and want to prove it.” Put Big $$$ in Your Schedule $SeS0/Hour* Immediate Evening Openings for Outbound Telesales Flexible hours and relaxed environment.
