Seagal fizzles in latest movie
FIRE from page 12
in a while, bud.)
You did show an attempt to grow
with “Fire Down Below” by working
as a songwriter and producer for the
film, and you even performed some
of the music! Grapted, it’s better than
listening to William SKatner, but it’s
not time to quit your day job. Hope
the tour goes well for you, though.
Fortunately, “Fire Down Below”
isn’t a Completely odious chunk of
cinematic yak phlegm.
Kristofferson’s bad-guy role is so bad
that it’s funny, there are some good
one-liners, and a couple of the action
scenes still evoke that loud “OOF!”
from the audience.
Other than that, though, the movie
falls as flat as the dialogue is written.
Tile acting ranks right up there with
hemorrhoid commercials, and the
story line has that unique flavor of
stale toe-jam.
But hey, at least Steve’s still got
his health, right?
Want to stay healthy? Avoid “Fire
Down Below.”

passes art
to children
■ Friday’s workshops
will teach techniques to
students and residents.
LEWIS from page 12
strength is working with children.
During Saturday’s workshop,
Lewis hopes to communicate the
art of working with children
through a few basic concepts.
“You need to understand that
children are young, and their
extended movement memory is
limited.,” Lewis said. “When
choreographing on children, you
have to take that into considera
tion. Another main difference
between a child and a trained
dancer is a trained dancer learns to
pick out which beats in the music
are used for which movements.”
In order to help children learn
music, Lewis taps out the beat on a
tambourine. As the children
progress, Lewis taps more lightly,
decreasing their dependence on the
instrument. By recital, the children
have learned the music, and the
tambourine is an unobtrusive pres
ence.
Lewis said the most important
thing he teaches in his classes is a
passion for teaching.
“I remember having teachers
who were passionate and even a lit
tle crazy,” Lewis said. “Now, they
want to homogenize teachers. If we
do that, they won’t be able to teach
our children how to adapt to
change.”
Lewis said the emphasis on
adaptability in modern dance is
one reason he prefers it over other
forms of dance.
“I find it hard to understand
why we would want to teach girls
in the 20th century the old-fash
ioned sense of femininity that
occurs in ballet,” he explained. “In
modern, they’re still making up the
rules, which is very exciting.”
