Libraries to celebrate 120 years of service From Staff Reports Lincoln City Libraries is celebrat ing its 120th birthday. Special events will take place at various library sites during the week of July 21 to cele brate 120 years of service to the citi zens of Lincoln. The public is invited to the following events. ♦ South Branch Library, 27th and South streets, on Tuesday, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Refreshments will be available and staff will be in period dress. ♦ Anderson Branch, 3635 Touzalin, and Bethany Branch, 1810 N. Cotner, invite patrons to visit any time on Wednesday to enjoy refresh ments with staff who will also be in period dress. Anderson will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Bethany will be open from 1 to 9 p.m. ♦ Gere Branch Library, 56th and Normal, will host a program by Ed Zwimmer on July 24 at noon. “Books, Bricks and Buggies” will be presented in the Gere meeting room at 7:30 p.m. The program takes a look back at the City of Lincoln and its libraries. ♦ Bennett Martin Public Library, 136 S. 14th St., will hold a birthday party on July 25 at noon complete with ice cream and the music of Chris Sayer. The party will be held in the central courtyard. The public can also join the cele bration by sending birthday greetings and personal memories of the library. Cards can be dropped off at any library or mailed to: Birthday Celebration, Lincoln City Libraries, 136 S. 14th St., Lincoln, NE 68508. Cards will be included in displays at all Lincoln City Libraries. Historical society lecture series continues today From Staff Reports The Nebraska State Historical Society will pre sent another in its series of monthly Brown Bag Lectures today at noon in the auditorium at the Museum of Nebraska History, 15th and P streets. This month's lecture is entitled “The Discerning Eye: Fred Humphrey’s Photographs of Lincoln.” The lecture will be presented by John Carter, Curator of Photographs, Library/Arc hives Division, Nebraska State Historical Society. Carter will reveal the histo ry of turn-of-the-century Lincoln, through pho tographs from the collection of photographer Fred Humphrey. The Brown Bag Lecture Series is presented on the third Thursday of each month, at the Nebraska State Historical Society’s Museum of Nebraska History.
