Two more Nebraska athletes verbally commit to Huskers _HUSKERS from page 8 All State selection as a defensive lineman last season. Though Kolterman has started both ways each of the last two seasons, Welch said the Huskers were looking at him as an offensive lineman. He’s a very, very motivated foot ball player,” Welch said. “He’s a mus cular big kid — a bodybuilder-type kid. He’s had to learn to play between the whistles and just control himself in a positive way. He’s a very intense individual.” Kolterman’s only weakness may be his speed, Welch said. “That’s not his strong point,” Welch said, “but his feet are getting better all the time. I’ve made him jump a lot of rope and I play him one on-one in basketball and I also run with him.” Kolterman was at Texas A&M’s camp — where he ran a 5.6 electron ic 40-yard-dash — when he learned Nebraska had offered him a scholar ship, Welch said. NU Coach Tom Osborne called Kolterman’s parents and asked them to stop by after they picked him up at the airport. Kolterman wasted no time and com mitted on the spot, Welch said. Welch said Kolterman - who has qualified academically — had also received offers from Fresno State, Kansas State and Wyoming. Kolterman, who is showing cattle in Oklahoma City, Okla., was not avail able for comment. After completing his senior sea son, Welch said he expects Kolterman to be ready to play Division-I football. “He’s going to come in physically as strong as anyone that comes in,” Welch said, “but their system of how they teach offensive linemen is a growing process.” The Huskers are nearing a fourth in-state commitment from Omaha Benson linebacker/running back Randy Stella. The6-foot-l, 195 pounder was offered a scholarship after attending the Nebraska camp earlier this month. “I’m pretty much leaning toward Nebraska right now,” Stella said. “I’ll probably end up going there. I like their program and their coaching staff.” As a junior, Stella played every down of every game leading Benson with 72 solo tackles, 37 assists, and 6 sacks. He also rushed for 743 yards on 106 carries and runs a 4.5 electronic 40-yard-dash. An All-State selection in football, Stella also won state with a 23 ft-10 in. mark in the long jump. If he chooses Nebraska, he would also be able to long jump for the Huskers, Stella said. -—, II I I j 17th & ‘N’ | No Appointments Necessary 476-9466 j ! $6 Off Oil Change Service | with UNL student ID. However, if the “Batman” movies continue with the current trend, scorecards will have to be handed out at the door to keep track of all the characters and activities going on. For “Batman and Robin,” we have three villains, three heroes, and four or five subplots, few of which come to any sort of conclusion. The main run of the film: Mr. Freeze (Schwarzenegger) and Poison Ivy (Uma Thurman) have joined forces against Batman and Robin (George Clooney and Chris O’Donnell) to sweep chaos and mayhem all over Gotham City, then the world.. Could it be just that simple? Heck no! Ivy has her henchman, Bane (Jeep Swenson), walking around doing his impression of a brick wall with a voice box, Robin is stretching out his codpiece because he has a crush on Poison Ivy, Alfred (Michael Gough) is sick, and Alfred’s grand niece Barbara (Alicia Silverstone) arrives at Wayne Manor. “Batman and Robin” is Schumacher’s second time behind the Bat-camera, and he seemed to be try ing to get a mix between the dark, brooding Batman seen in the last few decades and the more colorful, ono matopoeia-filled Dynamic Duo of years ago. Unfortunately, he went to both extremes, instead of working safely within each one, and the result is just a mess. What makes this even sadder is the fact that the talented duo of Akiva Goldsman and Christopher MacQuarrie came up with the script for this movie, and they filled it with lame one-liners and pathetic attempts at character development. No one seemed capable of decid ing what to do with Mr. Freeze; is he a full-fledged bad guy or a misguided scientist? Similar problems abounded with Robin as well; is he acting like a twit because of the spell put on him by Poison Ivy, or is he really just a twit? Clooney comes out all right as the latest derivative of the Caped Crusader, but suffers from a question able script and playing second banana to ... pretty much everyone else. The relationship between Bruce Wayne and Alfred provides Clooney’s best moments throughout the film. (This Batman has a decent chin, too.) The Facts Title: “Batman and Robin” Stars: George Clooney, Chris O’Donnell, Uma Thurman, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Alicia Silerstone Director: Joel Schumacher Rating: PG-13 (innuendoes, cartoon violence) Grade: C+ Five Words: Too many characters, subplots, one-liners Bane? Wasted. Completely wast ed. He’s used as just another huge, musclebound heavy and nothing more. Silverstone’s performance as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl is equally inane and useless. Thurman is actually very good as Poison Ivy, though the character could have used a bit more develop ment. However, of all the villains in the movie, hers is the most complete of the set. Somewhat reminiscent of femme fatale’s from movies years ago, Poison Ivy is a manipulative seductress, overly confident in her every ability and desire. If you’re hard up for entertain ment, catch “Batman and Robin;’’ but it won’t have the staying power of the last “Batman” flicks, and will hit the cheap seats relatively soon. “SSI
