Wedding coordinators tiy to make ceremonies glitch-proof
By Tasha E. Kelter
Staff Reporter
Ever wondered who takes care of the last
minute details of a wedding like pinning on
flowers, rehearsing who goes down the aisle
and in what order, and making sure all the
tuxedos are the right size?
At Eastridge Presbyterian Church, 1135
Lastridge Drive, wedding coordinator Diana
Wild sees to all those details and more in her
pre-wedding consultations with brides.
“I work with brides who are getting mar
ried in our church,” Wild said. “I guide them
through what it will be like having a wed
ding in our church.”
Wild said she also takes care of details
such as reserving pews for special guests,
finding out which candelabras the bride
wants in her ceremony, and working with the
ushers, flower girls and ring bearers.
She said brides who want to get married
at Eastridge are required to use a coordina
tor.
“What I do takes a lot of responsibility
and time from what the pastor has to do,” she
said. Couples are charged $75 for Wild’s ser
vices, but that’s without the fees the church
charges to non-members.
Usually, she said, churches charge
between $100 and $200 for use of their
church and facilities.
Once the bride decides to have her wed
ding at Eastridge, Wild said she meets with
the couple four to six weeks before the wed
ding to go over details and procedures. She
said one question brides ask frequently is
what the restrictions are on the types of wed
dings that can be held.
“Really, any more, there aren’t very
many rules,” Wild said. “I tell them ... we
try to stay within good taste.”
She said the types of weddings vary
from small and informal to large and extrav
agant.
Most college-age couples, she said, opt
for traditional weddings - both in the way
the ceremony is held and the way the party is
dressed - with four or five attendants and
“all their friends from school” coming from
all over the country.
Wild said besides the meeting, she
attends the rehearsal, and also comes a half
hour or so before the photographers arrive
on the day of the wedding to ensure that
everything is running smoothly and there
are no glitches.
