Basketball’s bad boy was dropped from Winfrey’s show be cause she objected to his obscenity and sex-filled “Walk on the Wild Side.” A taping planned for last week was canceled. “After reviewing Dennis Rodman’s new book, we decided it would be inappropriate to promote it to our viewers,” show officials said in a statement. The book, Rodman’s second, crossed the line of acceptability, a Winfrey spokesman said Tuesday. The Chicago Bull wrote about his affair with a transsexual, said he dates mostly white women be cause black women ignored him before he became a star and plans to legally change his name to “Or gasm.” The book “isn’t for everyone, but Rodman fans will love it,” said Carole Baron, the president of pub lisher Dell. Volcano’ singes snake flick but couldn’t surpass Peak LU5 ANUhUis (AF) — "Vol cano” bumped “Anaconda” from its No. 1 perch at the box office but failed to generate the heat of its earlier ri val, “Dante’s Peak.” The disaster film about a volcano erupting in Los Angeles had $14.7 million in ticket sales in its debut, ac cording to industry estimates Sunday. “Dante’s Peak,” about a volcano that destroys a small town, beat it to the screen by two months and took in $18.6 million, for the best February opening ever. “Volcano,” starring Tommy Lee Jones, got good reviews for its lava filled special effects. But its opening take could have been fatter, said Tom Sherak, chairman of 20th Century Fox’s Domestic FilmCJroup. “I think everybody really would have liked to have done more,” he said, explaining that a film’s opening is crucial because movies tend to lose audiences quickly these days. “Everybody’s building and build ing for that first weekend ... because, you know you’re going to have a huge falloff,” he said. “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion,” starring Oscar-winner Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow as two los ers faking success at their 10-year re union, debuted in second place with $7.6 million. 41s Top f 10 The following films brought in the most box office receipts over this past weekend (Friday through Sunday, dollar amounts are in millions of dollars) 1.
