Brass Rail enters theater worldwith The Lone Star’ By Liza Holtmeier Staff Reporter They have been friends, room mates and co-workers; and starting tonight, they will be co-stars. Adam Demars, Patrick Tuttle and Bradley Mausbach will star together in “The Lone Star,” the first theatrical production to be per formed at the Brass Rail, 1436 O St. “The Lone Star,” by James McClure, revolves around the lives of Roy and Ray, two toothers who experience a great deal of inner turmoil. The play, an extension of McClure’s “Laundry and Bour bon,” takes place in the back of a bar, where Roy and Ray go through the process of revealing things that will change their lives forever. Demars, Tuttle and Mausbach decided to produce the show be cause of their desire to work on the atre projects outside of UNL. The Brass Rail seemed to be the most likely place to perform. “I’ve al ways thought the play didn’t belong in a theatre,” said TUttle who plays Roy. “It’s rough and raw. In some ways, its better suited to a place like this.” Not only is this the premiere of theatre at the Brass Rail, it is also Demars’ debut as a director. “This experience has been about discoveries,” Demars said. “I’ve had to come to understand the director and actor relationship. There are still parts of the script I have yet to discover.” The three actors have been re sponsible for all areas of the pro duction, from acting and directing to production costs. “We only have ourselves to rely on,” Tuttle said. “We’ve brought all the talent, experience and passion for theatre we have to this produc tion.” Demars hopes this production will start a tradition of theatre at the Brass Rail. “We want to show people that the theatre and bar scene can go together,” Demars said. Demars said he has already re ceived requests to produce future shows at the Brass Rail. “Hopefully, people can come, see some good theatre and have a great experience at the Brass Rail,” Demars said. The show opens Wednesday night and runs through Saturday at the Brass Rail. Admission is $1 plus the roll of a die. Cocktails are at 7:30 pjn. and the show begins at 8 p.m. Minors are permitted to the show only. SOME THINGS ARE MEANT TO BE CLOSED YOUR MIND ISN’T ONE OF THEM. For decades, MDA has shown how valuable people with disabilities are to society. We believe talent, ability and desire are more Important than strength of a person's muscles. The one barrier these people cant overcome Is a closed mind. Keep yours open. MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY ASSOCIATION LuliiA! 1- 800-678-1717 ‘McHale’s Navy* moors alongside top-dog comedies NAVY from page 12 Of course, there’s the stem and inept commanding officer (played an noyingly by Dean Stockwell) and a love interest (Debra Messing) who doesn’t really have any on-screen 1 chemistry with Arnold. Tim Curry’s (‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show”) Vladkov grows less and less amusing as the story proceeds. The film is also graced with cam eos by Ernest Borgnine (the original McHale) and Tommy Chong. This movie, by no means, was a masterpiece. It was built around a ri diculously predictable story line and garnished with juvenile humor. But some of the sight gags and throw-away lines catch the audience off-guard, giving Arnold a likable on-screen presence. One of the biggest surprises of the film was the well choreographed boat chase in the beginning, which was reminiscent of the James Bond clas sic, “From Russia With Love.” And although it is highly unlikely that this film will reach the Oscars, it does provide a couple hours of mind less release from the tensions of the day.
