Band to perform rockabilly mix From Staff Reports The members of Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite Boys weren’t even bom when the music they play was being created. But Big Sandy (his real name is Robert Williams) and his Fly-Rite Boys, who will perform tonight at the Zoo Bar, 136 N. 14th St., are the real thing when it comes to country and western music. They play a mix of country, hill billy, rockabilly and western swing circa 1950. The odd thing is the mem bers are all in their 20s and came to the rockabilly scene from early ’80s exposure to bands like the Stray Cats. The Boys’ debut album, “Jumping From 6 to 6,” was produced by Dave Alvin (formerly of the Blasters). The show starts about 9 p.m., and there’s a $5 cover charge. Courtesy photo BIG SANDY and his Fly-Rite Beys perform toeight at the Zee Bar. Uneven performances separate play’s production SEPARATION from page 9 Their naivete and energetic pres ence provided many comic mo ments, and they played off Hassler and Harrell well. Michelle Eckley, Daniel Rasmussen, Michael Semrad and Ryan Johnston were funny, yet sad in their roles as troubled teens and bitter children. Jude Hickey, in the role of Trent, finally helped the audience to un derstand Paul’s charm. Steven Barth was a bit too sun shiny and bright in his role as Rick. Though his switch in emotion dur ing his monologue contrasted his previous happiness well, he still needed more variety in his lines to portray Rick’s absolute desperation. Heather Oman gave a satisfac tory performance in the role of Elizabeth. Her scenes with Rick and Paul were carefree and loving, but she needed to portray more sor row after Rick’s death. Theresa Shook’s set provided countless dimensions to the play. Her use of bold, primary colors helped to solidify the glittering ap pearance of the Kittredges’ life and Paul’s persona, while her dark backdrop and angular lines hinted at the unhappiness present under neath. “Six Degrees of Separation” continues Tuesday through Satur day at 8 pjn. in the Howell The atre of the Temple Building. $3.25 par day for 15 words on individual student and student-organization ads. $4.50 par day for 15 words on non-student ads. $.15 each additional word. $.75 billing charge.
