Huskers finish third THIRD from page 7 on the uneven bars, and Arizona State finished strong enough to finish just .75 ahead of the Huskers. Despite thoughts of Dillman run ning through her mind, senior Shelly Bartlett managed a second-place fin ish in the all-around. Bartlett, a native of Spokane, Wash., scored a 39.25, just behind Utah’s Angie Leonard’s 39.3. Bartlett and Leonard tied for first on the vault (9.9), and the uneven bars (9.875). “That was probably the hardest meet I’ve ever had to compete in by far,” Bartlett said. “Just as far as the emotional drain that it was.” Freshman Nicole Wilkinson, who replaced Dillman on the floor exer cise, finished tied for third in the all around with a 39.175. Despite only a three-minute warm up on the floor, Wilkinson still man aged a 9.725 on the event. “Obviously, we’re disappointed because we could have won this meet,” Wilkinson said. “But I think we did very well compared to the circum stances.” Doctors said Dillman, who spent Saturday night at University Hospital, had probably tom both posterior cru ciate ligaments and the medial collat eral ligament in her right knee. Kendig said doctors will determine today the extent of Dillman’s injury and if surgery is needed. A native of Katy, Texas, Dillman had scored a 9.9 on both the vault and the floor exercise this season. The Huskers will be the lOth-seed for Nationals and compete in the morning session of the meet on April 17. Utah, seeded eighth, also competes in the morning session. The top three teams from both ses sions advance to the Super Six. American Heart Association Fighting Heart Disease and Stroke Reive hurt in NU loss From Staff Reports The Nebraska men’s gymnas tics team placed fifth out of nine teams Saturday at the NCAA West Regional in Albuquerque, N.M., failing to qualify for the NCAA Championships for the second straight year. California won the regional with a 233.125, earning the top spot at the NCAA Championships. Oklahoma and Stanford also quali fied from the West Regional, and Ohio State, Iowa and Penn State earned spots Saturday from the East Regional. J.D. Reive, who owns NU’s top all-around score this season, fell on his head while practicing on the parallel bars before the meet. Reive underwent successful spinal fusion surgery in Albuquerque and will return to Lincoln Tuesday with Comhusker Coach Francis Allen. The third-ranked Huskers’ score of 226.725 — their lowest since Feb. 8—placed NU well out of reach of a necessary third-place finish. Nebraska entered the meet having recorded four straight scores of230 or higher, a mark that would have easily earned the Husk ers their 18th trip to the NCAA Championships in the last 19 years. Nebraska has beaten every qualifier for the NCAA Champi onships but Ohio State this season. Derek Leiter, who placed fourth in the all-around, and Bill Mullholland, who finished sixth, qualified to compete individually at the NCAA Championships, April 17 through 19 in Iowa City, Iowa. Oklahoma’s Casey Bryan won the all-around competition Saturday with a 57.225. Other individual NU qualifiers include: Marshall Nelson (first in the pommel horse, first in the par allel bars, third in the high bar, fourth in the vault); Ryan McEwen (10th in the high bar); Blake Bukacek (14th in the high bar); and Ted Harris (third in the still rings). Husker women beat Tfexas Tfech From. Staff Reports The Nebraska women’s tennis team improved to 13-5 overall and 3-4 in the Big 12 Conference with a 7-2 win over Texas Tech (7-9 and 3 5) on Friday. NU’s Sandra Noetzel beat Texas Tech’s Eva Eguiguren 7-6, 6-3, Annie Yang defeated Lukshmi Ravindra 6-1, 64, Jennifer Hoste beat Misty Meyer 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 and Adriana Dulic defeated Sarada Ravindra 1-6, 6-2, 6-1. ■— Alexander offense’s bright spot DEFENSE from page 7 Frankie London, NU’s current No. 2 quarterback, finished with 51 yards rushing on 14 attempts — including an 18-yard scamper. “It wasn’t so much that they didn’t move the ball,” Osborne said, “it was just getting a penalty, turnover or somebody blocking the wrong guy at the wrong time.” Senior I-back Jay Sims rushed six times for 37 yards. Sims helped set up Perino’s touchdown with a 23-yard run to the 8-yard line. Defensively, cornerback Ralph Brown had a standout day. Brown, who was run over by Alexander on a rushing play, intercepted a Perino pass and returned it 38 yards. In addition, Brown stuffed I-back Ahman Green for a four-yard loss on a third-down and-4 play. Brown said despite holding the offense to one touchdown, the defense still has work to do. “I think it balanced out,” Brown said. “Because sometimes they broke up our secondary and sometimes we made .the break on the ball. We just need to watch more film and learn the coverages.” National buying power means you save more! EVERY BIKE AND ACCESSORY IS ON SALE FORTHIS WEEKEND ONLY!
