Film Critic
Lots of big-name films open in Lincoln’s theaters
Friday; but the quality of the movies is, as always, un
known until you plop down your six bucks. Pick one or
two and take a chance.
Few the brainless action and martial arts fans, there’s
the ege)-vehiCle “Double Team” with Jean-Claude Van
Damme and Dennis Rexlman. Lots of explosions, spin
kicks and basketball references in this flick. Acting?
Yeah, right.
In an update of the popular television and book se
ries, Val Kilmer stars in “The Saint,” the story of a
charming rogue who is a master of disguise and an even
better thief. Elisabeth Shue (“Leaving Las Vegas”) co
stars as a scientist who holds a secret that Simon
(Kilmer) has been hired to steal. Looks like lots of high
tech action, drama and romance in this one.
The insults zip back and forth between a divorced
couple in “That Old Feeling,” starring Dennis Farina
and Bette Midler. About to get-married, a woman must
invite her divorced parents who “hate each other with a
nuclear capability” to the event. So, naturally, they fall
in love again. Looks like fun!
“Inventing The Abbotts” follows two brothers who
begin dating three sisters in this 1950s romantic-com
edy. The movie stars Joaquin Phoenix (‘To Die For,”)
Billy Cnidup (“Sleepers”) and Jennifer Connelly, and
is definitely made few the college audience. See it with
someone you love — or at least someone you like a
little bit.
