Chimera’s eyes to smile on Duffy’s From Staff Reports Some luck o’ the Irish is breezing through Lincoln this week. Chimera, (pronounced “shimmer uh”) from Northern Ireland, will per form this Wednesday at Duffy’s Tav ern, 1412 O St. at 10 p.m. The Belfast band — whose moni ker comes from Greek mythology — is touring to support their July 1996 release, “Earth Loop,” on Grass Records. It’s the band’s second U.S. release since 1995’s EP “Day Star.” (Incidentally, a chimera is a fire breathing she-monster with a lion’s head, goat’s body and serpent’s tail.) The album was produced by Chris Nager, who’s worked with acts like Joy Division, New Order, Stone Roses, The Smiths and The Charlatans. They’ve opened for acts like the Pix ies, My Bloody Valentine and Throw ing Muses, and have gotten write-ups in magazines like Alternative Press and the CMJ New Music Report. Sec onds magazine says of Chimera, “Imagine the Cocteau Twins as the house band for Warhol’s factory.” Formed in 1990, Chimera proves Ireland has more to offer musically than U2 or the Cranberries. They blend glittery-dark heavy-ended gui tars with jangle-pop hocks, and tend to avoid the fashionable political/reli gious lyrics. The band comprises lead singer Eileen Henry, guitarist Ted Laverty, bassist Steven T. Emerson and drum mer Willie Vincent. i • ■ Grass Records CHIMERA, if Belfast, Ireland, will play Lincoln Wednesday alpbt. 02 Appliances 05 Bicycles 10 Books 13 Clothing 16 Computers 20 Furniture 30 Jewelry 40 Misc.
