‘Marvin’ strong on acting, weak on plot MARVIN from page 12 the actors, however; it’s with the script. When reading playwright Scott McPherson’s original play, a sense of finality is missing from the ending. It ends, but there’s no sense of closure. It doesn’t feel like it’s over. In the film, little is done to repair that incomplete feeling. Without giv ing the ending away, one is left won dering “But then what?” McPherson’s script is a fine piece of writing, though, with great charac terization. Instead of presenting flat and uninteresting people, all of the idiosyncrasies are exposed and given to the viewer, which brings the story to life. Humor is worked into tire story line with an expert hand, but the ending is left too wide open for a comfortable finale. Despite the well-fashioned dia logue and extremely powerful acting, Film: “Marvin’s Room” Stars: Diane Keaton, Meryl ^ Streep, Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert DeNiro Director: Jerry Zaks Rating: PG-13 Grade: B Five Words: “Marvin’s Room” seems somewhat unfinished “Marvin’s Room” ends hollowly — and that’s a tragedy in itself. — Donate Plasma at NABI and Earn: •$25 for new customers ^Bonuses for those who qualify to •Up to $150 per month participate in our special Programs for return customers «For an appointment call 474-2335 , Soa>rSSS Fra PA At Ihe Dow .
