City attorney will keep job another term From Staff Reports Lincoln will keep its city attorney for another term. William F. Austin, city attorney since 1980, was unanimously ap proved for another two-year term by the City Council during its regular Monday meeting. Austin, whose term expires Jan. 15, 1999, has represented the city in some of its most controversial dis putes. He helped the city reach agree ments in the Francisco Renteria case as well as negotiating with city firefighters regarding pay increases. As the city attorney, Austin’s re sponsibilities include overseeing court cases on behalf of the city as well as preparing agenda items for council meetings and providing legal advice to the mayor. law & Order Domestic assault Police are searching for a man who called 911 after assaulting his girlfriend during a fight at her apartment. Lincoln Police officers were called to Lincoln General Hospital after a woman there received ten stitches to her head. She told the following to police: Around 2 p.m. Sunday, the woman and man got in a fight at 502 S. 12th St. During the fight the man choked her, nearly making her black out. He then pushed her head into a windowpane and then dragged her around the room by her neck. Domestic assault A man who went to his truck to warm it up Sunday morning came back with a handgun and threat ened his former wife in front of their children. Officers arrested Scott Shan non, 31, of Lincoln, after his former wife reported that he had put a .380-caliber semiautomatic hand gun against her left eye, pushed her against a refrigerator, put the gun underneath her chin and said, “I’ll do it. I swear I will.” When he noticed blood coming from a glass cut to her head, he called 911 and left. Lincoln Police Sgt. Ann Heermann said the man still was not in custody Monday afternoon. Heermann said the incident was witnessed by Shannon’s 5- and 6 year-old children. He was arrested for third-degree assault and mak ing terroristic threats. Narcotics A University of Nebraska-Lin coln freshman was cited Saturday for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana after university police caught him smoking outside his fraternity. University Police Sgt. Mylo Bushing said Scott PalT of Omaha was cited outside Triangle Frater nity, 1235 N. 16th St., after an of ficer walked up to him and another man. The two men were standing out side the west entrance of the fra ternity house at about 4:20 a.m. The officer approached them and smelled marijuana and watched as Paff snuffed out the joint.
